Courage Mudzongo, PhD

Courage Mudzongo joined the Graduate Department of Clinical Psychology as an associate professor of clinical psychology in 2023. He arrived from Warner Pacific University, where he served as an associate professor of psychology and as the institution’s Certified Family Life Educator program administrator the previous six years. Concurrently, from 2017 to 2023, he served as a program supervisor and equity lead at New Avenues for Youth, a Portland-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention and intervention of youth homelessness.

Prior to a move to Oregon, Mudzongo was the evaluation coordinator for the PREP: Making Healthy Choices youth program housed at North Dakota State University (2013-17) and a graduate teaching and research assistant (2011-17) at the university. His career began in Zimbabwe, where he worked as a research assistant for the African Youth Programming Project (2006-09) and as a youth development and HIV/AIDS consultant for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in 2003-04.

His areas of expertise include human development, adolescent homelessness prevention and wrap-around services, adolescent sexual and reproductive health and behavior, child protection, and overseas mission trips.

Mudzongo earned a PhD in developmental science from North Dakota State University (2017) and holds a master’s degree in sociology from the same institution (2012). He lives in Portland with his wife Itai and their two children, Matida and Mufaro, and attends Grace Lutheran Church. He enjoys the outdoors, which includes chasing waterfalls, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
