Play Therapy with Adults: Using Sandtray Therapy
Friday, November 8, 2024
Presented by Linda E. Homeyer, PhD, LPCS, RPT-S™)
This 6-hour seminar will provide information about how sandtray therapy provides a play therapy experience for adults. The therapeutic powers of play used by play therapists will be applied to adult play. We will look at how typical adults create the sandtray and how to observe and process the sandtrays with greater depth (eyes-on-tray). The many ways therapists use sand tray with adults in many settings will be explored, along with pertinent research. Adult age-related stages and related cognitive decline considerations will be discussed.
Bring 10-15 miniatures that reflect, for you, doing adult work in the sand tray. Let’s have fun: Hands-in-sand and eyes-on-trays!
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Discuss when play therapists might choose to use sand tray at specific times in the therapeutic process with adults
- Identify therapeutic powers of play in the sand tray with adults
- List specific miniatures that are helpful for various adult life stages
- Discuss ways for increased depth processing of completed sandtrays with adult clients
- Identify typical sandtrays of various adults are related to Erikson’s stages and cognitive decline
- List therapeutic settings in which sandtrays with adults might occur
